Whether you’re recording software or games to share with others on YouTube or streaming video games to twitch or some other service, thankfully, there is no shortage of free screen recording software for you to choose.
So today, I’ll show you the best screen recorders that you can use for free to capture high-quality video from your computer. I’ll also go over the pros and cons of each service.
The screen recorders/game screen recorders that I am mentioning are absolutely free to use.
Now keep in mind that some of these screen recorders have its own pros and cons. Only a few of them are good for a game recording while the rest are good for screen recording.
So just keep that in mind as a these are free but there are also ups and downs. So, starting off:
1. Ice Cream Screen Recorder
This is a pretty good screen recorder. If you are looking into recording your desktop screen and maybe for looking at doing tutorials, ice cream screen recorder is pretty decent.
The only con I can see about this screen recorder is that you do have a time limit of 10 minutes which I find extremely reasonable. 10 minutes is perfectly fine for screen recorder because it’s not like you’re going to record longer than that. So, if you want to record more, you just stop the recording and record again and merge the clips together.
But ice cream screen recorder is pretty damn good. If you ask me it’s good for beginners to start with and record.
The cool thing about ice cream screen recorder also is that there are no watermarks and if you get any messages to upgrade a pro, just click “Do not show again”.
It’s completely free to use which is pretty neat anyway. It is available for Windows and Mac.
2. Tiny Take
Tiny Take is a freemium screen recorder that will let you record short videos and capture screenshots. They also offer editing tools that allow you to mark up your screenshots and videos with the textbox, arrow, picture, caption along with other tools.
When you’re done recording, your videos can be saved locally to your hard drive. They can also be saved to tiny takes cloud storage service.
Tiny take does not have watermarks but unfortunately, some of their features are reserved for their premium plans. The free basic plan also has a video recording limit of 5 minutes and only allows up to 2 gigabytes of storage with their cloud service.
It is one of the other screen recorders may work better for you if you’re someone that doesn’t require many features and you want an easy to use the screen recorder.
Tinytake is available for Windows and Mac.
3. Flashback Express
Flashback Express does not have any time limits or watermarks. Videos can be captured in full screen by selecting a window or by selecting an area of your screen.
They do have a pro version of the software with advanced editing features but if you already have a reliable video editor that you use then the Express version will be all that you need.
Flashback Express is available for Windows XP or newer. In order to use it, they required that the short form be filled out and they’ll send you a free license.
They also released a free screen recorder specifically for gamers called FBX. It has many cool features including being able to record up to 20 frames per second. Right now, FBX is completely free.
4. iSpring Free Cam
iSpring free cam which is 100% free with no watermarks, no time limits or nag screen stub grade. This is one of the easiest screen recorders you can ever use.
Most of the newbie preferred this program for recording screen. It even has an audio and video editor built in to remove background noise for any parts of the video. There’s single click feature to upload videos to YouTube is convenient.
In iSpring Free Cam, you can record as long as you want and it’s somewhat a little bit easier to use and it saves in a proper format as well.
There is two primary reason why it’s not number one in this list because videos can only be exported in WMV format and the highest video quality is limited to 720p. Other than that iSpring free cam is one I’d recommend to those of you looking for an easy to use a screen recorder.
It’s only available for Windows to download. You have to enter an email address, it doesn’t have to be a real email account and then click on free download to be directed to the download page.
5. OBS Studio
OBS Studio which is open-source and completely free it’s what most of the Youtubers use to record screen for videos.
In addition to recording videos that can be saved to your system. You can use it to record various live streaming services with OBS at record rate up to 60 frames per second.
Open broadcast software is a really good program for recording gameplay. Yes, you can also record a desktop and it isn’t limited for streamers.
OBS studio which is open-source and completely free. It’s what most of the Youtubers use to record screen for videos.
There are no forced watermarks compared to many of the screen recorders that you can use. The learning curve is slightly higher and the interface is not that user-friendly for newbies.
OBS studio is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
6. Nvidia Shadowplay and AMD Radeon Reliv
Nvidia shadowplay is also a very good alternative to OBS.
I’ll mention two different programs that are from graphics card specific company. First of which is Nvidia Shadowplay which is only available to owners of GeForce Graphics cards.
You can record footage to be saved to your computer or stream games to Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and more.
The other program is for those of you with AMD Radeon graphics cards and it’s called Radeon Reliv. Just like the other screen recorders, it can also record your gameplay and stream to the popular services.
If your PC has a Radeon or GeForce graphics card, these are two excellent programs that you should check out.
Covering it up and that was my lists of a free screen recording software for desktop and gameplay. I hope you guys loved the review and if you know any other interesting and useful screen recorder which is worth to be added to the list. Comment down below. 🙂
